The latest 9km by 9am walk takes us to the top of Craig Llysfaen in Cardiff. Take a look at Nigel's experience on this trail and add it to your list of walks to complete in 2022!
Craig Llysfaen is a prominent hill of 265 metres overlooking Cardiff some 7 miles north of the city centre. Well worth it. Oh and there’s 5G there!
I parked in the Traveller's Rest pub near the top of Caerphilly Mountain and headed along the footpaths towards Craig Llysfaen around 4.5km away. It was still dark when I started at 0552, so the first 45 minutes was a bit tough as visibility was extremely limited even though I had a torch.
The walk took me along part of the Rhymney Valley Ridgeway Walk through an area called Cefn Onn. There were a few cows protective of their calves to dodge on the way but well worth it. Craig Llysfaen is a high point with magnificent views over the whole of Cardiff and as far East as Newport and West towards the Brecon Beacons.
Total elevation of the walk is 157.6 metres.
DATE OF WALK: 05.58 – 08.57, 4TH SEPTEMBER 2022
