Let’s go forest bathing – Part 10 – Forest Bathing Indoors

Nigel is the founder of REROOT YOURSELF™ - a detailed look at the science behind nature and wellness, helping busy people with limited time tap into the art of forest bathing and the healing power of nature.

Throughout June I’ll be sharing tips and insights on how to Forest Bathe exclusively on 9KM BY 9AM and the Outside & Active website.

A 30-minute forest bathe once or twice a week will help you slow down. It will bring you into the present moment and de-stress
and relax you.

FOREST BATHING INDOORS!

A lot of us never try forest bathing because we think we don’t have the time.

But there are lots of ways you can tap into the art of forest bathing and the healing power of nature enabling you to bring the peace and the awareness that you cultivate in forest bathing into all aspects of your daily life .

You can use these tools to harness the power of nature and forest bathe when it suits you – in your office, on your way to work, at lunchtime, in the park; as well as in the wood and forest.

HOW TO FOREST BATHE AT WORK OR AT HOME?

Simply incorporate the natural world into your environment.

PLANTS

People who have plants in their offices are more energised feel less
stressed, better able to concentrate, far more productive, more
efficient and more creative.

SOUNDS

Studies have found that listening to the sounds of nature when we’re at
work can help us to focus and get more done. You can listen to sounds of
the forest on YouTube – Birdsong, wind in the leaves, rain.

FRAGRANCES

Use fragrances in the workplace to recreate smell of the forest.
Diffusing essential oils can help relieve stress. All of the evergreen
essential oils can be good.

BAREFOOT

At the office, you can recreate the feeling of going barefoot with a
grounding mat that you can put your feet on under your desk.

LOCAL PARK

Take a forest bathe in your local park every lunchtime. Any small green
space will do.

TAKE A GREEN MICRO BREAK

A view of nature from your window can make you feel great and reduces
job related stress.

FRESH AIR - OPEN A WINDOW

If windows and doors are opened the air in the room gets replaced about
28 times per hour. So open the window. Do your best not to close it when
you go to bed.

Take a deep breath look up at the sky or stare at something green, like a
tree or a hedge or a flower bed.

NATURAL VS ARTIFICIAL

Looking out of the window and receiving light improves your physical,
psychological & spiritual well-being.

ROOM WITH A VIEW

Views of natural scenes like trees, flowers and skies are better for
your health than views of urban scenes, like brick walls.

My book, Walking Back To Happiness: The Secret To Alcohol-Free Living
& Well-Being and my coaching course Reroot Yourself shows how you
can massively improve your mental and physical well-being, through
re-connecting or rerooting with the natural world, walking outdoors,
watching sunrises, forest bathing and being more mindful about the
changes in nature that are happening all around you.

HAVE A GREAT DAY...

BEST PLANTS FOR YOUR HOME / OFFICE

Research shows having no plants is associated with high levels of tension and anxiety. Here is a list of plants NASA recommends to clean the air in space stations… If it's good enough for NASA it's good enough for me...

Peace Lily, Golden Pothos, English Ivy, Chrysanthemum, Gebara Daisy, Mother-in-law’s Tongue, Bamboo Palm, Azalea, Dracaena, Spider Plant

One of the easiest plants to look after is bamboo, it doesn’t need sunlight, just a little water.
