Welcome to the ultimate guide to summer festivals for active families!
The summer holidays are around the corner and if you haven’t already planned a summer festival, it's the perfect time to immerse yourself (and the family) in the outdoors. Whether it’s trail or road runners, gravel, mountain or road cyclists or families trying new sports, these communities LOVE to get together and discuss what they love doing most! Summer festivals offer unforgettable experiences, they bring people together from all walks of life and are a great way to spend a summer weekend.
We’ve collected 3 summer festivals which are happening this summer that we recommend.
The Wild Goat Festival debuts this Summer in the stunning Lake District. It includes gravel cycling, trail running, food, drink and music at the incredible Holker Hall in the Lake District and it’s suitable for families!
One all-inclusive price - camping, meals, facilities and event entry all included (camper van & glamping options available).
You can ride the lakes gravel paths with Non Stanford, Markus Stitz and the Hope Factory Race Team. You could run the scenic trails with Steve Cram & Paula Radcliffe! Meet all of your favourite sporting GOATs (GREATEST OF ALL TIME) and meet a new community of runners and cyclists.
Full weekend and day tickets are available with a 15% discount using the code NCS15, they can’t wait to see you there!
If the Lake District isn’t your choice of location, try Norfolk, a festival sharing the same August dates. Fancy your chances playing rugby against the likes of Will Greenwood or taking on 800m champ Jenny Meadows in a sprint race?
Keen to get your kids into sport but still trying to work out which one? This August, Festival of Sport gives 5 – 17-year-olds the chance to try over twenty sports in a single weekend. From American football to archery, kayaking to climbing and trampolining to boxing, it’s all happening at beautiful Holkham Park in North Norfolk.
What’s more, all sessions are led by sports pros including Olympians, World Champions and gold medalists. For the full family festival vibe, there’s also live music and entertainment, a wellness zone, a packed international street food village and camping and glamping on site.
Join Ellis Brigham to celebrate their 90 years anniversary with a weekend of exploration and adventure.
They believe there is no better way to celebrate their 90th anniversary than by sharing their love for the outdoors with friends and family. So, this September, they’re hosting a weekend of exploration and adventure on the shores of Llyn Tegid in Bala, North Wales, and you’re invited!
Partnering with our friends at The North Face, Montane, and Rab, they’ll be bringing together some of the UK's leading outdoor professionals to get you hiking, trail running, climbing, swimming and paddle boarding in and around the largest natural lake in Wales. There will be something for everyone, with outdoor skills workshops, cooking demos, gear repairs, yoga, forest school, guest speakers and more. Plus, they’ll have experts on hand all weekend to offer tips and techniques in the areas that interest you the most.

In January 2024 I left my home in Manchester to travel around South East Asia. Running has played a huge part in my experience of each and almost every place I’ve passed through. But this type of behaviour hasn’t always been typical of me. No, in fact a couple of years ago, I’d have thought it bizarre to even think of running whilst on the trip of a lifetime, let alone actually follow through with it and worse still, enjoy it!
