The adidas Manchester Marathon, one of Europe’s largest marathons, has today confirmed the forthcoming 2024 event has now sold out following the release of its Final Entries on Monday.
The release of Final Entries on Monday gave pre-registered, would-be participants the opportunity to secure one of the final 10% of participant places following unprecedented demand.
All remaining entries were snapped up within hours of being released, with a record 32,000 participants taking on the 26.2-mile course on Sunday 14th April 2024.
Over 20,000 people had pre-registered for the remaining spots, with many travelling from abroad to take on what is fast becoming known as the world’s friendliest marathon.
In addition to the participants, more than 125,000 spectators are expected to line the streets of Trafford and Manchester to offer their support. Local clubs and volunteers also form a vital part of the event, helping to hand out water and direct visitors. Those who are interested in helping can now register for updates on the official website.
With record numbers descending on Greater Manchester in 2024, the region can expect a significant economic boost over the event weekend. Data from the 2023 adidas Manchester Marathon economic impact report showed the benefit to the host economy was an incredible £21,176,362.52.
In addition, the organisers donate £1 for every participant in the adidas Manchester Marathon to the Trafford Active Fund. The Trafford Active fund offers local groups and organisations the chance to receive a special allocation of funding to build a long-lasting sport and physical activity legacy in Greater Manchester.
Additionally, as part of the eco-friendly Green Runner initiative, City of Trees has been appointed as the event’s official Green Runner charity. The initiative strives to improve the event’s sustainability credentials, reducing its overall environmental impact. Ultimately, the adidas Manchester Marathon aims to donate £5,000 to support the planting of trees across Greater Manchester.
Commenting, Chief Executive of adidas Manchester Marathon event organiser, Human Race, Andrew Smith, said: “We are delighted that the adidas Manchester Marathon has completely sold out in record demand despite an increase in capacity. The demand for places has been incredible which is testament to the enthusiasm of the people of Greater Manchester.
“We’re looking forward to welcoming more than 30,000 people of all abilities to the start line and to making the 2024 adidas Manchester Marathon the most memorable yet.”
