Endurance athlete Nikki Love is mere days away from setting a new Guinness World Record. Her phenomenal 77-day, 4,000-kilometre coast-to-coast fastest female run across Australia has not only shattered age and endurance barriers, it has also amplified the conversation around women in menopause.
I embarked on this adventure to show that age isn't a limit to achieving dreams. Despite navigating the perimenopause phase of life with its inherent issues and symptoms, I started and continued this run. My hope is to inspire others to break their barriers," Nikki said.
With her partner, Sharif, at the wheel of their campervan, Nikki’s daily ultra-marathon distances have been punctuated by unexpected wildlife encounters.
"I've had a dingo for company for 15km, and large eagles watching me as they spied their next roadkill meals," she laughed.
This run, though personal, is also a mission to support the ADHD Foundation’s Umbrella Project. Nikki expressed her strong support.
"I believe in creating safe spaces to discuss neurodiversity. Supporting such a cause is a great honour.".
The final stretch of her journey is bitter-sweet and Nikki's anticipation for the comforts at the end is understandable.
"I'm thrilled to be close to the finish, but the awareness of the hundreds of kilometres still to run keeps me grounded. It’s a reminder of the persistent challenges,” she admitted.
"I’m looking forward to sleeping in a proper bed and not having to get up to run over 50kms the next morning!"
Nikki’s 'Run Australia' underlines the boundless potential for human achievement and resilience.
Her voyage symbolises the enduring human spirit, not only physically but also emotionally, mentally, and socially. Over the years, with her relentless will, tenacity, and resilience, she has become a beacon of inspiration for many worldwide.
Media and journalists are invited to witness history at Nikki's arrival at Bondi Surf Bathers' Life Saving Club on Sunday 16 July 2023. Details of the event and a precise arrival time will be provided closer to the date.
